Welcome to the newly formed Northeast Oregon Small Woodlands Association (NEOSWA), a Chapter of the Oregon Small Woodlands Association (OSWA). After a period of inactivity, NEOSWA was born out of the Baker Chapter (formerly Baker County Private Woodland Association), and expanded to include Baker, Grant, Union, and Wallowa Counties. This new Chapter has a broad reach, but represents all small woodland owners and interested individuals who share the Blue Mountains as their home. It is our hope that this new Chapter will invite those who haven’t previously had a formal chapter, or have been interested in being more involved.
As of August 2021, NEOSWA has an elected Board including a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary; has drafted and adopted Bylaws for the Chapter; has drafted the first issue of a quarterly newsletter (The Blue Mountain Forester); and has started a website. Member meetings will be held monthly on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM, starting September 2nd, 2021. Board meetings will be held every-other month on the first Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM, starting September 2nd, 2021 (just prior to member meetings). All members are welcome and invited to attend Board meetings.
As the Chapter grows, we would like to have folks representing each County included on the NEOSWA Board. Currently, we would like to fill two open positions, one being the Membership Chair and the other being the Newsletter Editor. If either of these are of interest, please let us know! Looking ahead, we hope to host a Chapter Annual Meeting annually in the Spring. This Annual Meeting will feature an in-person get together as well as a tour of a NEOSWA member’s tree farm. It is our vision to rotate the County in which the Annual Meeting is held every year, so all NEOSWA members get a chance to meet with members across Counties and show off their tree farms.
